*Per New York State Education Department requirements, all students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program must successfully complete 60 credits of Liberal Arts and Sciences coursework. If needed, students should use Open Elective credits to fulfill these requirements, beyond their General Education courses, and look for courses with the “LA” attribute when registering.
*Note: No more than 12 credits of Paralegal Studies courses may be taken for the Legal Studies major.
Students who choose the major concentration in Legal Studies must complete:
course - Intro Legal Studies
course - Managing Human Conflict I
course - Intro Law School Experience OR course - The Art of Legal Reasoning
course - Constitutional Law & Policy (cc)
Plus five additional courses in Legal Studies numbered 203 or above OR Paralegal Studies courses numbered 201 or above.
Students must also choose Three Courses from the Following:
course - Law of Evidence
course - The Art of Legal Reasoning
course - Argument/Debate & Court Room Skills
course - Exploring the NY Courts
course - Managing Human Conflict II
course - Contemp Issues Legal Studies
course - Intro Law School Experience
course - Workplace Experience I
course - Workplace Experience II
course - Mod Engl Writing with Style
Any Political Science course numbered 300 or above.
Note(s)
There is an 18-credit residency requirement in the major concentration in Legal Studies.
The Legal Studies major does not prepare students for a career as a Paralegal. Legal Studies is not approved by the American Bar Association.
