Bachelor of Science: Legal Studies with a Concentration in Paralegal Studies

*Per New York State Education Department requirements, all students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program must successfully complete 60 credits of Liberal Arts and Sciences coursework. If needed, students should use Open Elective credits to fulfill these requirements, beyond their General Education courses, and look for courses with the “LA” attribute when registering.
Students who choose the major in Legal Studies with a specialization in Paralegal Studies must complete:
course - Intro Legal Studies
course - Managing Human Conflict I
course - Constitutional Law & Policy (cc)
course - Legal Research/Writing I
course - Legal Research/Writing II
course - Substantive Law/Document Draft
course - Litigation
course - Advanced Seminar Para Studies
Plus two courses in Paralegal Studies numbered course through course.
Plus two additional courses from Paralegal Studies numbered 201 or above, or LAWS numbered 203 or above.
There is an 18-credit residency requirement in the Paralegal Studies major.
Mercy University is a member of the American Association for Paralegal Education. The Paralegal Studies major is approved by the Standing Committee on Paralegals of the American Bar Association.
PARALEGALS ARE NOT LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW.
Paralegals work under the direct supervision of an attorney who is responsible for the work product of the paralegal.

Plus any three Legal Studies courses numbered 203 or above, or any two Legal Studies courses numbered 203 or above, AND course Mod Engl Writing with Style .
Note(s)
There is an 18-credit residency requirement in the Legal Studies major with a Specialization in Political Science.
The Legal Studies, Political Science Specialization major does not prepare students for a career as a Paralegal. Legal Studies, Political Science Specialization is not approved by the American Bar Association.
