Graduate Progression CriteriaIn the final undergraduate year, students in the B.A. Spanish / M.B.A. program will be evaluated by the School of Business Associate Dean and graduate Program Director for a review of their qualifications to progress to the graduate education portion of the program, including:
Students in the 4+1 program who do not meet the above criteria, will not be permitted to continue to the graduate education portion of the program. Their major will be changed to the B.A. Spanish and the undergraduate degree will be conferred upon completion of the undergraduate program. Credits earned for graduate education courses taken will be applied to the undergraduate degree as elective credit. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Students who choose the major concentration in Spanish must complete:
course - Intermediate Spanish II (recommended for non-native or non-heritage speakers of Spanish) OR course - La Gramatica Espanola (recommended for native or heritage speakers of Spanish)
course - Comparative Romance Literature
course - Intro Lit Crit Hispanic Stdnt
course - Spanish Capstone
And six major Spanish courses numbered 220 and above, which must include three major courses designated as Broad and three major courses designed as Focus. The courses listed as Broad are more comprehensive topically than the Focus courses, which emphasize greater depth within a specific topic

The TESOL graduate courses that must be completed for the B.A. degree are the following:

course- Approaches to Literacy in Early Childhood through Adolescence
course - Theory and Practice of Second Language Acquisition for Students with Disabilities
The above 15 credits are taken as an undergraduate student as part of the B.A. degree program. The remaining 15 credits are taken as a graduate student after receiving the B.A. degree and after meeting the admission requirement for acceptance into the M.S. degree program. Please see the Graduate Catalog for course descriptions of the above courses and for specific requirements for the M.S. degree.
*Students in the 4+1 program must take course - Contemporary Issues in Childhood & Education Credits: 3, under the Social Perspectives General Education Disciplinary Grouping, as a general education elective
Graduate Progression Criteria
In the final undergraduate year, students in the B.A. Spanish / M.S. TESOL, Pre-K-12 program will be evaluated by the School of Education Associate Dean and graduate Program Director for a review of their qualifications to progress to the graduate education portion of the program, including:
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and in Graduate Education courses
Submit a written Effective Educator Statement.
Students in the 4+1 program who do not meet the above criteria, will not be permitted to continue to the graduate education portion of the program. Their major will be changed to the B.A. Spanish and the undergraduate degree will be conferred upon completion of the undergraduate program. Credits earned for graduate education courses taken will be applied to the undergraduate degree as elective credit.
