The Latin American Short Story

Description

From Echeverría’s “The Slaughterhouse” through magical realism to the present day, this course explores the Latin American short story tradition. We consider the short story as an art form, we examine its history as a Latin American literary genre, and we situate it within Latin American literary and social movements. Students will become familiar with the work of canonical writers as well as that of important regional writers.
