Description
The course explores the development of modern Chinese history from the nineteenth century to 1949, covering the last days of China's Qing dynasty and the Republican period (1911-1949). The course will examine major historical events such as the Opium War, the 1911 Republican Revolution, the Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945), and the Chinese Civil War (1945-1949). Students will get familiarized with important historical concepts such as tradition, modernity, imperialism, nationalism, feminism, Marxism, and fascism.
