Description
This course will offer a comprehensive introduction to the history of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The course will encompass background history preceding the founding of the PRC in 1949, Mao Zedong's regime (1949-1976), and the reform era from 1976 to the present day. The course aims to explore socialist transformations and economic reforms within a global context, spanning from the Cold War to the present. To this end, the course will be structured chronologically, with significant emphasis placed on materials related to the international environment such as the Korean War, the Bandung Conference, the protests of 1968, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the neoliberal turn. Also, it will delve into key events in PRC history, including the Great Leap Forward movement, the Cultural Revolution, and the Tianamen Protests movement in 1989.
