The turn of the twentieth century ushered in the era of modernity, a period marked by rapid social, cultural, scientific, and artistic change. This course examines modern American fiction from the early to mid-twentieth century, focusing on major innovations in narrative form, style, and technique. Students will explore how the often radical, experimental, and disrupted forms of literary expression reflect, respond to, or reimagine the conditions of modernity.
