Course Description
This course examines the American Gothic tradition from the early nineteenth century to the present, exploring how writers use horror, the eerie, the macabre, the supernatural, and the psychologically unsettling to confront cultural anxieties, social tensions, and cosmic questions. Attention is given to the genre’s evolution over time and to the historical and cultural contexts from which American Gothic texts emerge.
