Course Description

This course serves as an introduction to 20th- and 21st-century literature and film of the Hispanic Caribbean. We will examine canonical and non-canonical works from Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic, and from the Greater Caribbean, including parts of Central and South America, and the Caribbean diaspora in the United States. We will consider works with respect to the historical movements and cultural traditions that inform them while also conducting close readings and film analyses.
