Course Description

An introduction to historiography and historical method through guided readings in primary sources and
secondary literature. This course is organized around topics that will give the student experience in the
recognition, critique, and writing of historical narrative. This course will also familiarize majors with history
as a profession by requiring each student to complete a minimum of 15 hours of service learning in an
approved field relevant to the study of history (i.e. education, law, museums, libraries, archives). This
required course for History majors is to be taken junior or senior year after a student has completed 18
credits in history. HIST 320 may not be taken concurrently with HIST 495.
